Description

What is azithromycin?

Azithromycin Anhydrous is the anhydrous form of azithromycin, an orally bioavailable azalide derived from erythromycin, and a member of a subclass of macrolide antibiotics, with anti-bacterial activity. Upon oral administration, azithromycin reversibly binds to the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit of the bacterial ribosome of susceptible microorganisms, thereby inhibiting the translocation step of protein synthesis by preventing the assembly of the 50S ribosomal subunit. This inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, inhibits cell growth and causes cell death.

Azithromycin is an antibiotic drug with a wide range of clinical applications. It has the advantages of broad antibacterial spectrum, little irritation to the gastrointestinal tract, and fast oral absorption. It is used by both adults and children. Azithromycin has less side effects than cephalosporin antibiotics. It is currently the most commonly used antibiotic drug for the treatment of bacterial infection-related diseases in Chinese hospitals. This drug is the second-generation semi-synthetic derivative of macrolides. Unlike erythromycin, it inserts a methyl substituted nitrogen at position 9a of the erythromycin lactone ring to produce a 15-membered macrolide.

Azithromycin Uses

The mechanism of action of azithromycin is similar to that of erythromycin. By binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome of sensitive bacteria, it inhibits RNA-dependent protein synthesis and exerts an antibacterial effect, retaining the antibacterial spectrum of typical erythromycin. The activity against chlamydia is similar to erythromycin. Compared with erythromycin, the antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria has been significantly improved. The antibacterial activity against influenza bacillus and Neisseria gonorrhoeae is more than 4 times stronger than erythromycin, and the antibacterial activity against Legionella is about 2 times stronger. Times, the antibacterial activity of Enterobacteriaceae is also significantly stronger than erythromycin. The MIC for most gram-negative bacteria is less than 1μg/ml. Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes have cross-resistance to this product and erythromycin. It also has a good killing effect on Toxoplasma and Treponema pallidum. Azithromycin is mainly used for respiratory infections, urogenital infections, skin and soft tissue infections and sexually transmitted diseases caused by sensitive microorganisms.

It is suitable for the treatment of the following infection symptoms caused by sensitive bacteria:

1. For acute pharyngitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, acute tonsillitis and sinusitis caused by sensitive bacteria, acute otitis media, acute bronchitis, and acute attacks of chronic bronchitis.

2. Used for pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, influenza bacillus, Chemicalbook and Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

3. Used for urethritis, cervicitis and pelvic inflammation caused by chlamydia and non-multi-drug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and simple genital infections caused by non-multi-drug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae (need to exclude the co-infection of Treponema pallidum) .

4. Used for skin and soft tissue infections caused by sensitive bacteria.
