Anticancer effect of quercetin in fruits and vegetables

Quercetin is a natural flavonoid that exists in the flowers, leaves and fruits of a variety of plants, and has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, oxygen free radical scavenging, Anti-tumor, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, hypotensive and immunomodulatory effects.

Is Quercetin used for preventing cancer?

Quercetin has also been found in some studies to treat and prevent cancer. Quercetin was found to prevent the formation of liver cancer cells, primarily due to its role as an antioxidant, according to the June 11, 2009, Journal of Experimental and Clinical Cancer Research. In the May 18, 2009 issue of the medical journal Phytotherapy Research, quercetin was also found to treat cancer by causing apoptosis, or “cell death.”

While these studies are promising, most have been performed in mice and mice, not humans.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) reported a human study in which the combination of quercetin and curcumin reduced the size and number of rectal tumors. The American Cancer Society’s position is that they would like to see more clinical trials of quercetin’s effects on human cancer before recommending supplements. However, they did increase their quercetin intake by increasing their daily intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.
