Description

What is Ofloxacin?

Ofloxacin is an oxazinoquinolone carrying carboxy, fluoro, methyl and 4-methylpiperazino substituents. A synthetic fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent, it inhibits the supercoiling activity of bacterial DNA gyrase, halting DNA replication. It has a role as a DNA synthesis inhibitor, an antiinfective agent and an antibacterial drug. It is an oxazinoquinoline, a N-alkylpiperazine, a N-arylpiperazine, a 3-oxo monocarboxylic acid, an organic heterotricyclic compound, a quinolone antibiotic and a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.

It is also a second generation fluoroquinolone that was previously used widely for therapy of mild-to-moderate bacterial infections, but which has been replaced by more potent and less toxic fluoroquinolones and is now used largely topically as eye and ear drops. Ofloxacin has been linked to rare instances of acute hepatocellular injury.

Ofloxacin Uses

Ofloxacin is widely used in combination with other antibiotics, antipyretic analgesics, antiviral drugs, immunomodulators, or developed into compound preparations. According to market surveys, some provinces and cities have approved more compound ofloxacin preparations, such as ofloxacin diclofenac sodium injection, ofloxacin levamisole hydrochloride tablets, etc., to expand the antibacterial spectrum for comprehensive prevention and treatment, especially for Other antibiotics, such as Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Mycoplasma, and anaerobic bacteria, which have relatively poor curative effects, have a good effect. Common compatibility medications are:

①Cooperate with antiviral drugs such as Astragalus Polysaccharide, Isatis Root or Senecio, for bacterial and viral infections;

② Compatible with antipyretic analgesics such as diclofenac sodium, ketoprofen, etc. for bacterial fever;

③ Compatible with traditional Chinese medicines such as Houttuynia cordata and Bupleurum, for heat syndrome;

④ Compatible with metronidazole for severe anaerobic infections;

⑤Combined with doxycycline hydrochloride and sulfa drugs for blood protozoal disease;

⑥ Compatible with dysentery and berberine for intestinal diseases.

Ofloxacin is the third-generation quinolones synthetic antibacterial drugs that have the advantages of wide antibacterial spectrum, strong antibacterial activity, good bioavailability, safe and effective oral administration, low toxicity, and no drug resistance. It has good antibacterial effect on a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and also has antibacterial effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Chlamydia. For strains resistant to neopenicillin, clindamycin, gentamicin and strains resistant to norfloxacin, Ofloxacin works well without cross-resistance. In addition, it also has a certain antibacterial effect on anaerobic bacteria. It is commonly used for respiratory infections, intestinal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, urinary system infections caused by sensitive bacteria.
