Natamycin side effects

What is natamycin?

Natamycin is a natural antifungal compound produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces. It belongs to polyene macrolides. It can not only inhibit the growth of various molds and yeasts, but also inhibit mycotoxins. It can be widely used in food preservation and anti-fungal treatment. Natamycin has no inhibitory effect on bacteria, so it does not affect the natural maturation process of yogurt, cheese, raw ham, and dried sausage.

Natamycin function

Natamycin is a kind of “polyene macrolide” fungus inhibitor produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces natalensis, and it is also the only approved high-efficiency, broad-spectrum, safe and natural antifungal in the world.PIMAFUCIN for sale-Maxmedchem

Natamycin is a polyene macrolide in chemical structure. It can bind to a type of “sterol compound” on the surface of mold/yeast, thereby forming holes on the surface of the cell membrane, causing the death of the bacteria. Since there are no sterols on the surface of bacteria, natamycin has no inhibitory effect on bacteria.

Natamycin is harmless to the human body, it is difficult to be absorbed by the human digestive tract, and it is difficult for microorganisms to develop resistance to it.

Natamycin application

1. Natamycin has been used for decades in the food industry as a hurdle to fungal outgrowth in dairy products and other foods.

(1) As an aqueous suspension (such as mixed into a brine) sprayed on the product or into which the product is dipped, or in powdered form (along with an anticaking agent such as cellulose) sprinkled on or mixed into the product.

(2) As a food additive, it has E number E235. Throughout the European Union, it is only approved as a surface preservative for certain cheese and dried sausage products.

2. Natamycin has a good anti-mildew effect on the moon cake, baked goods, meat products, salad drinks and other fields.

3. Natamycin is used to treat fungal infections, including Candida, Aspergillus, Cephalosporium, Fusarium, and Penicillium. It is applied topically as a cream, in eye drops, or (for oral infections) in a lozenge.
